Some area residents have recently experienced some negative effects from plumes and smoke from the start up procudures of the CPV Power Plant.

We want to assure you that this is unacceptable and we have been, and will continue to be, in constant contact with the DEC and CPV to alleviate this situation.

Unfortunately, several lawsuits slowed down the construction of the natural gas supply line to the plant. Because the gas line is still under construction, the plant was forced to begin the start up process of fuel oil. During this startup phase and while cleaning and tuning hte plant, this fuel has caused a series of negative effects.

The Town of Wawayanda and CPV have come up with several changes to improve the function of the plant during this startup process. If these measures don't work, we have told CPV that they must wait until the natural gas line is completed and connected before resuming startup procedures.

CPV assures us that this is a short term isolated event which will not be indicative of normal day to day operations once the plant is fully operational with natural gas.

The Town of Wawayanda is committed to protecting the safety and welfare of our residents and will continue to work with CPV and the DEC until this issue is resolved.

Attached are two letters from CPV with additional information and a timeline for startup dates.

You may call us here at Town Hall along with Tom Rumsey from CPV or the DEC at the numbers below if you have any questions or concerns.
