Effective on October 14, 2009, all open burning is prohibited in New York with several exceptions including the following:
In towns with a total population less than 20,000, you may burn tree limbs with attached leaves. The limbs must be less than 6 inches in diameter and 8 feet in length (also referred to as brush). However, this is not allowed from March 16 through May 14 due to the increased risk of wildfires.

The 12th Annual Town of Wawayanda Picnic in Shannen Park. Saturday, September 22, 2018 from 1pm - 5pm. The Picnic is open to all Wawayanda Residents. Join us for an afternoon of food, fun and live music. Face painting and bounce houses for the kids. We will be serving hot dogs and hamburgers, cold salads and soft drinks. Bring your blanket and lawn chairs.

The Town is in the western part of the county, south of Middletown. The Town of Wawayanda was established in 1849 from the Town of Minisink. It had been first settled after the American Revolution. Wawayanda consists of approximately 35.33 square miles (22,610 Acres).

Orange County has adopted a new service in which residents and businesses can ask the county to notify them by phone, email,or text message about an impending storm or other emergency. County Officials announced on Thursday 1/7/2016 that they had contracted with Florida-based Emergency Communications Network for its CodeRED services.
